We love the Lifestyle
The name Umitoyama (Sea to Mountain) is derived from our origins and our playground. From Australia and Indonesia which are surrounded by oceans to the mountains of Hakuba in the Japanese Alps. From the Sea to Mountains, this is our playground and we hope it will become yours too.
Umitoyama is a lodge accommodation located in the village of Hakuba Nagano. Sitting at the foot of the Japanese Alps the mountains provide the perfect playground for snow lovers looking for one of the best winter resorts in the world. Hakuba is where the 1998 Winter Olympics was held, arguably the only place to ski in Asia. Umitoyama is strategically located in Echoland and provides comfortable accommodation for your stay.

Reviews
Where do I start? Umitoyama was a perfect home base for our ski vacation on the US Epic Pass. The owners / staff really do go out of their way to make you feel at home and to share their passion for Japan and the Hakuba Valley. We particularly enjoyed the chic and cozy common area for relaxing apres-ski and the excellent in-house espresso and cocktails. We ate in one night as well -- they make nabe Japanese hot pot Tuesdays and Saturdays -- and it was also great. And, as many have mentioned, the location is perfect next to many dinner choices in Echoland and shuttles to all the resorts. Thank you Kris, Evan, Martin, Marco, and team! We miss you already.

Owners were absolutely lovely and super helpful when it came to any needs or questions about Hakuba. Location was perfect, central to all mountains, close to shuttle bus stops and near many food options. Will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Hakuba!

Our family of 4 (2 adults with 2 teenagers) had an incredible 8 night stay at Umitoyama in the beautiful Hakuba Valley. Umitoyama was the perfect base for our skiing holiday with spacious rooms, comfy beds and a lovely common area to relax in. The lodge is in a quiet, picturesque woodland area but it is an easy, very short walk to the bus stops for the ski resorts and the main street of Echoland with its shops and restaurants. The fabulous staff are only too happy to provide help and advice on all things snow sports, other local activities and where to eat out. Their welcoming but laid back manner made it feel like we were coming home each evening. The breakfasts each morning were great, and the espresso coffee was the best coffee I had in Japan by a long shot!!! The "hot pot" dinners were also superb! I would not hesitate in recommending Umitoyama to anyone going to Hakuba. The photos on the website are an accurate representation of the facilities. I believe Umitoyama is great value accommodation and we will certainly stay there again on our next trip to Hakuba!

Martin and Chris are great! They are super friendly and helpful for any of your questions. They also are great cooks and were very accommodating to our very large group of 12 people. Would definitely come back!

Excellent location - short walk to Echoland restaurants. Even shorter walk to the free shuttle buses. Clean and comfortable facilities, very homely. The owners were the highlight - super friendly guys! They gave us excellent recommendations on all things skiing/boarding as well as restaurants and bars. Umitoyama was perfect; so much so that we extended our stay. We highly recommend them!
